The EUAA support to courts and tribunals aims at promoting the effective and consistent implementation of the Common European Asylum System and is the result of a close working collaboration between the EUAA and a dedicated network. This support is entirely intended for the benefit of the members of courts and tribunals across Europe who are working in this highly specialised area of the law.
The EUAA coordinates the Courts and Tribunals Network and produces high-quality materials designed to support judicial practitioners in their daily tasks and to form the basis for capacity building activities.
The EUAA has developed a network that has consistently grown over the years. Courts and tribunals from all EU+ countries, as well as the following key stakeholders, are represented in the network:
- The Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.
- International and European judicial associations: the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges and the Association of European Administrative Judges.
- Other stakeholders, such as the European Judicial Training Network, the Academy of European Law, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Since 2013, the network has been meeting every year for its Annual Coordination and Planning Meeting. These meetings focus on strategic and thematic issues.
The EUAA Judicial Publications are specifically tailored to the needs of members of courts and tribunals competent in asylum matters. This series is primarily intended for use by members of courts and tribunals of EU Member States who are concerned with hearing appeals or conducting reviews of decisions on applications for international protection.
These dedicated publications were initially developed to serve as a support for the judicial workshops that the EUAA Courts and Tribunals Sector organises on a regular basis. Over the years, this series has also become a reference work for judicial professionals and aims at fostering convergence in the implementation of the legal instruments of the Common European Asylum System.
The EUAA judicial publications comprise judicial analyses, judicial trainers’ guidance notes and compilations of jurisprudence, apart from country of origin information, which comprises a judicial practical guide accompanied by a compilation of jurisprudence. All materials are developed in English and are translated in several languages. The judicial trainers’ guidance notes related to each judicial analysis are intended for the professionals delivering judicial training and are only available on request.
The publications cover the following topics:
Core Topics:
- Qualification for international protection (Directive 2011/95/EU)
- Evidence and credibility assessment in the context of the Common European Asylum System
- Asylum procedures and the principle of non-refoulement
Horizontal Topics:
- Introduction to the Common European Asylum System for courts and tribunals
- Country of origin information
- Vulnerability in the context of applications for international protection
Expert Topics:
- Exclusion: Articles 12 and 17 Qualification Directive (2011/95/EU)
- Ending international protection
- Detention of applicants for international protection in the context of the Common European Asylum System

The EUAA organises judicial workshops which are based on an EUAA judicial analysis. In addition, judicial trainers’ guidance notes provide points for discussion, case studies, moot court exercises and other interactive exercises.
The reader will find all the necessary information on their content, methodology and practical organisation in the Catalogue of the EUAA judicial workshops for members of courts and tribunals.

In addition, the EUAA provides ad hoc support in response to requests received from courts and tribunals in Member States as well as third countries, in line with the EUAA External Cooperation Strategy. The EUAA also organises conferences and seminars to bring together judges from all Member States, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.
The EUAA Expert Panels are a new set of webinars aimed at members of courts and tribunals who wish to deepen their expert knowledge in specific areas of the CEAS.
The panels facilitate the exchange of views, interpretations, recent national case law, best practices on challenging topics and recent developments in the case law of the CJEU and ECtHR.
