Implementation of EASO Training Curriculum in 2020

Against the backdrop of the 2020, COVID-19 pandemic, EASO’s Training had to adapt to the situation by developing new methodologies and tools. In order to deal with the high number of requests for online trainings, EASO proposed to gradually adapt the existing Trainer’s Manuals for all EASO modules in order to support and facilitate the virtual delivery of the online studies as well as the face-to-face sessions.

The training experience of participants throughout 2020 was quite positive with 84% of satisfaction, showing that the EASO trainers were able to convey knowledge and skills even in the unprecedented situation of 2020.

In 2020, EASO continued to consolidate its Training Curriculum and to deliver both train-the-trainer and national training sessions.

In 2020 the total participation of the EU+ countries officials remained high, reaching over 5,500 participations confirming the trend of the previous years.

The Curriculum attendance sees the predominance of the Core modules for asylum case officers (Inclusion, Interview Techniques, Evidence Assessment).

With regards to train-the-trainer sessions, the EU+ countries participation amounted to 337.

Overall, 24 modules were delivered, including those delivered for the first time: Identification of potential exclusions cases, Registration of applications for international protection and Reception of Vulnerable Persons Block A and Block B. The multiplier effect of the EASO training in 2020 amounted to 11 trainees for one trainer trained.

With regards to national training sessions, EASO supported the Member States by accommodating a very increased number of requests to attend online courses by participants and trainers in the period right after the outbreak of the pandemic in Europe. In March-April 2020 the total number of enrolments to EASO training increased significantly by 94% compared to the same period of 2019. Overall, the EU+ countries participations increased by 2% compared to 2019 (5,038 vs. 4,959) taking into consideration a decrease in number of national training sessions in the second semester of 2020.

EASO continues to deliver training in the framework of its operations as well as the EASO External Dimension.  In 2020, the operational training (Italy, Greece, Cyprus & Malta) recorded 1.493 participations.

288 participations to EASO training modules were registered from External Dimension and other stakeholders, a stable trend compared to 2019.

Last but not least, increased deployment of EASO personnel in Greece matched by new training plan aimed at supporting the Greek authorities in sustaining long-term quality and efficiency in the national asylum system. For more information consult the Press Release.
