On 8-9 October 2018 in Gorizia, Italy, and in cooperation with the Italian Department of Public Security, EASO launched the first two-day operational training for Italian Immigration and Border Police on the registration of applications for international protection.
The aim of these sessions is to equip registration officers working in the different Questure of Italy with the essential knowledge and skills to register applications for international protection in line with the EU asylum acquis and national provisions, with the long-term goal of achieving a harmonised and efficient registration procedure across Italy.
The training programme includes thematic sessions with practical exercises and simulations, delivered by EASO representatives and Italian officials, on fundamental rights and access to the asylum procedure, applicants with special needs, communication techniques, Italian national registration procedure and platforms used, Dublin procedure and EURODAC, Police activities at the border. This first training session included the participation of around 50 officials deployed in the Questure of North-Eastern Italy. By the end of 2018, EASO is organising other seven regional operational training sessions on the registration of applications for international protection for Italian Immigration and Border Police throughout Italy.
