On 27 February, Hon. Fred Teeven, Dutch State Secretary of Security and Justice and Minister for Migration, visited the head office of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) in Malta, and held a meeting with Dr Robert K. Visser, EASO Executive Director. During the meeting, the two discussed EASO’s activities and the Common European Asylum System. Other topics discussed included the asylum situation in Bulgaria, the functioning of EASO’s Early warning and Preparedness System, the recast Dublin regulation and the latest asylum trends in the Mediterranean area, focusing on the EU’s perspective, smuggling in human beings and the application of EASO’s external dimension strategy in Northern Africa. EASO’s contribution to the implementation of the measures highlighted in the report of the Task Force Mediterranean (TFM) was also discussed.
