On 2 November, Mr. Georges Dassis, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), visited EASO’s premises in Malta.

During the meeting, EESC’s President was updated on EASO’s role and main activities, with a special focus on EASO’s work vis-à-vis the implementation of the EU Relocation Programme and the EU-Turkey statement.

The Executive Director of EASO, Jose Carreira, thanked President Dassis for his visit and for the interest in EASO’s work and held that “EASO is fully committed to the implementation of the EU Agenda on Migration, and we promote actively cooperation and close coordination between all the actors involved in the process. EU institutions need to work closely with Civil Society and other stakeholders, including economic and social ones, in order to achieve the best possible results on the ground”.

Mr Dassis congratulated EASO’ Executive Director and all EASO staff for their work. EESC’s President also highlighted the key role that EASO has in the implementation of a Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and added that “EASO must play an important role in a strengthened Common European Asylum System. We need to equip EASO with the necessary resources to enable it to fulfil its role and be an instrument of solidarity”
