The report aims to bring child-related issues in asylum procedures into the mainstream. The report presents national practices and policies on asylum procedures for children, identifying gaps and areas of diverging practice across Member States, highlighting good practices, and providing key recommendations to strengthen the protection of children across the EU. The report traces the practices along four key topics: best interests of the child in asylum procedures; asylum procedures for children; referral; specialisation and training of staff. The report provides operational definitions and recommendations to respond to the identified challenges undermining the effective protection of children in asylum procedures.
