Trafficking in human beings

DESCRIPTION

The aim of this module is to provide learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify indicators of trafficking in human beings, handle an encounter and respond to the needs of potential victims of trafficking in the asylum contexts, in view of safeguarding their rights in line with the CEAS.

This module on trafficking in human beings (THB) within the asylum context, equipping learners with the skills to identify indicators of THB, handle encounters with potential victims, and respond to their needs in line with the CEAS. It consists of four submodules: an overview of THB and its link to international protection, the definition of THB and its key elements, methods for identifying potential victims and handling encounters, and the rights, safeguards, and actions necessary to protect victims. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Knowledge

1. Outline the phenomenon, key elements and definition of THB

2. Explain the rights and safeguards applicable to potential victim of THB in line with the EU legal framework on trafficking and asylum

   Skills

3. Identify indicators of THB and most common forms of THB in the asylum contexts

4. Explain how to handle an encounter with a potential victim of trafficking

   Competence

5. Propose actions based on the needs of potential victims of THB in the asylum contexts in view of safeguarding their rights in line with the relevant EU framework.

DELIVERY METHOD

This module is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining asynchronous online training with a face-to-face session. The online component introduces key concepts, including THB trends, definitions, and victim identification, using interactive activities such as quizzes, reflection exercises, and case-based assignments. 

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

The assessment consists of an evolving scenario involving an applicant for international protection who is a potential victim of trafficking where learners have to analyse background information and answer questions on risk factors and trafficking elements by reviewing documents and respond to questions on identification, handling encounters, victim rights, and appropriate actions.
