Country of origin information - Advanced

DESCRIPTION

The aim of this module is to provide the learners with advanced knowledge and skills on COI research principles and strategy, including online research methods. The module focuses on examining special contexts of research, such as vulnerable groups, serious harm as defined in  Article 15c of the Qualification Regulation and exclusion. In addition, learners are helped to develop the skills of drafting and presenting COI products by applying the techniques of quoting, rephrasing/paraphrasing, summarising, and synthesising the information, and ensuring that COI products are drafted respecting applicable quality standards. 

The module focuses on developing learners' ability to conduct effective Country of Origin Information (COI) research and present findings in accordance with quality standards. It covers COI research strategies, sources, and challenges, particularly in cases involving vulnerable groups, Article 15(c) QR, and exclusion. Learners also gain skills in drafting, presenting, and ensuring the quality of COI products through techniques such as referencing, disclaimers, and peer review.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

1. Apply the appropriate strategy/strategies when researching Country of Origin Information

2. Decode fundamental aspects of the research topics of vulnerable groups, Article 15 (c) QR and exclusion

3. Apply the available techniques to construct useful COI products

4. Ensure that COI products meet quality standards

DELIVERY METHOD

The module follows a blended learning approach. It uses interactive elements such as infographics, animations, practical examples, and scenarios to engage learners. Activities include reflection exercises, case-based assignments, and research simulations to reinforce learning outcomes.

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

The assessment strategy is based on a single assessment divided into two parts. The first part involves a written case scenario where learners apply COI research strategies, analyse research topics related to vulnerable groups, Article 15(c) QR, or exclusion, and draft a formal query response. The second part requires learners to conduct a peer review, ensuring COI quality standards are met.
