Country Guidance: Syria

The 'Country Guidance: Syria' represents Member States' joint assessment of the situation in the country of origin in relation to the applicable international and EU legislation on international protection. The guidance note, accompanied by the common analysis, was endorsed by the EASO Management Board in September 2020.

The 'Country Guidance: Syria' applies the common legislative framework regarding qualification for international protection in an in-depth analysis of the situation in the country. The analysis and conclusions in this document are based on the most up-to-date EASO country of origin information reports, which were available at the time of its completion.

The 'Country Guidance: Syria' aims to provide assistance to decision-makers and policy-makers in the EU and beyond, by addressing the following topics. 

The country guidance represents the common assessment of the situation in the country of origin by senior policy officials from EU Member States, in accordance with current EU legislation and jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). 

This guidance note does not release Member States from the obligation to individually, objectively and impartially examine each application for international protection. Each decision should be taken on the basis of the individual circumstances of the applicant and the situation in Syria at the moment of the decision, according to precise and up-to-date country information, obtained from various relevant sources (Article 10 of the Asylum Procedures Directive).
